Bosco Gurin

Recently, I visited Bosco Gurin and just after a few minutes, I fell in love with it.

Bosco Gurin is rather isolated and located in the canton of Ticino.

It’ll take about an hour and 20 minutes from Bellinzona and about 55 minutes from Ascona by car to reach Bosco Gurin.

When you arrive there, you’ll notice that it looks quite different from the other villages of Ticino.

Ticino is an Italian-speaking canton, but this village is German-speaking.

Since it was founded by German-speaking Walser people, and till now, it retains its unique Walser culture and language.

The locals speak their own dialect called “Gurinerdeutsch”.

The village is situated at an altitude of about 1,504 meters (4,934 feet), making it the highest-situated village in Ticino.

The houses are beautiful blends of Ticinese architecture.

You’ll notice many houses standing on pillars, as you will see in Zermatt, Albinen, and other picturesque villages in the canton of Valais.

Bosco Gurin is great to visit during summer or winter.

In summer, it’s mostly green, the houses are decorated with flowers.

While in winter, the roofs are often covered with snow. I really like both impressions.

Since the days are short in winter, I highly recommend you stay past sunset.

The mood is going to be very nice, especially with snow absorbing all the colors.

Mürren

Mürren is a beautiful mountain village located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland.

It is a car-free village and only accessible by gondola or mountain railway.

Situated on a high terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, Mürren offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, such as the Eiger, Jungfrau, and Mönch.

It is beautiful during summer and winter, but personally, I prefer the winter season.

When there’s a lot of snow, Mürren looks like a real fairy tale village, like a true winter wonderland.

You can do many outdoor activities while staying in this village.

In the summer, you can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and paragliding.

In the winter, you can enjoy skiing, sledding, snowboarding, and winter hiking.

Mürren is perfect to combine with a visit to the Schilthorn.

It takes two gondola rides to reach Schilthorn from Mürren.

Grimentz

Grimentz is no doubt one of the most stereotypically Swiss villages you could ever find.

This beautiful village is located in Val d’Anniviers near the language border between the French and German-speaking parts of the canton of Valais.

Grimentz is full of beautiful wooden houses, each one looks unique.

During the summer months, they’re all decorated with flowers, particularly with geraniums.

You can see the villagers really make their efforts to present their houses in their best way.

Every year there is a competition regarding which house has the most beautiful flower decoration.

When strolling through the alleys, you’ll find many secret passages and definitely a lot of great photo spots.

You also may notice many houses that stand on pillars, which will prevent rats and mice from getting inside.

Grimentz’s most beautiful places are the creek with the fountain and the technology of the use of water being nicely showcased.

The entrance to the main alley is probably the most picturesque place in the village.

You can also come here in winter. It’s very charming with the snow, particularly during sunset.

I had one of the best winter sunsets in this village.

Grimentz is easily accessible by road and public transportation.

It takes about one hour and 20 minutes by car from Zermatt.
