You will definitely feel the very peaceful atmosphere upon your arrival. Albinen is very serene but, at the same time, it strikes with its beauty.

Albinen's alleys

When you stroll around the alleys, you will notice many traditional wooden houses all around the village, and you may ask yourself if this might be the best and most stereotypically Swiss village.

After a couple of minutes of walking around, you’ll notice there is really a lot to see. So make sure to explore the village the right way in order to cover the most important parts.

I suggest starting by exploring the lower part first and then walking up to the very top to see the rest of the village.

From the bottom part, you’ll get a nice view down to Rhone Valley.

In fact, Albinen is located quite high up at 1300 meters (4265 feet) and oversees the valley, which really makes the village stand out from the many others in Switzerland.

I think the lower part’s main alley is considered to be the most beautiful one in the village.

You’ll find some nice fountains and also sledges with beautiful flower decorations.

The upper part will give you a good view not only over the valley but also of the village of Albinen.

One thing that you unfortunately won’t be able to see when you explore this village is how it looks from afar, for example, from a drone’s perspective.

Albinen has a really beautiful appearance with its perfectly preserved core of traditionally Swiss wooden houses, chalets, and its modern church. The church is also worth seeing from the interior.

Houses of the Albinen village

The houses in Albinen village are notable for their traditional Swiss Alpine architecture, reflecting the region’s cultural heritage and historical roots.

Flower decoration

Most of the houses in the village are traditional Swiss chalets. You need to take a close look at each of the traditional houses. Some of them are really beautifully decorated with flowers.

Old tools on the walls

One thing that I really like about the villages in the canton of Valais is that people put a lot of old tools on the walls of their houses.

House on the pillar

You will see some houses built on pillars, and what’s characteristic about them is that they have mouse plates made of stone, which basically prevent the mice from getting into the house.

Lotschental masks

Also, you’ll see some masks on the houses’ walls. These are Lotschental masks.

Lotschental is a very unique valley where they have a very ancient form of carnival where the people wear these masks to chase away the winter spirits.

And this has become part of the culture of the entire canton of Valais to put these masks on the houses.
